My name is A.P. Thayer, and I am a queer, Mexican-American author based in Los Angeles. Welcome to my little corner of the internet. In fiction, I blend horror, magical realism, and dark fantasy into what I call “nightmarism.” In non-fiction, I write personal essays and blog posts where I grapple with identity, uncover generational trauma, and demystify mental health while hoping to make you expel air sharply from your nostrils.

On Strange Speculations, expect:

  • Essays on speculative fiction and its intersections with cultural heritage, queerness, and personal development.

  • Personal reflections on ADHD, anxiety, and the process of self-discovery.

  • Behind-the-scenes peeks at my writing journey, including updates and sneak peeks into upcoming books, publishing news, and social media reveals.

  • The occasional reprint or original short fiction piece.

  • A poem or two.

When I’m not writing, I’m probably in the kitchen throwing together a new recipe, rolling a d20, or shouting at a Formula 1 race on TV.

Whether you’re here for the stories, the insights, or just a bit of company in the chaos of life, I’m glad you’re here. Subscribe for free to join the conversation, and let’s speculate about the strange together.
