The State of Los Angeles
I just want to send a quick post about what can be done to help re: the wildfires here.
To describe what’s happening in Los Angeles right now as catastrophic is not an overstatement. As of when I’m writing this, the three biggest fires are still burning: Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst. Something like a dozen others have come and gone over the last six days. The destruction and devastation wreaked will take years to overcome.
There isn’t much more I can say about this situation. I’ll admit I’m in a bit of a fog. There are better news sources out there and more active people on social media reporting.
What I do want to do is link a few places I think are important where you can send support if that’s something you are able and willing to do.
Pasadena Humane Society to support the hundreds of newly boarded animals streaming into the shelter.
Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation for support and equipment directly to the firefighting teams.
Anti-Recidivism California to help the 900-some incarcerated folk working alongside firefighters to control these wildfires. Here is an LATimes article for more information on this program.
And finally, Octavia’s Bookshelf in Pasadena is organizing donations in the community and you can follow their account on Instagram for more info.
